The Val Bangs/Wayne Crabtree Volunteer Award is a recognition of the outstanding volunteer work by one or more persons throughout the year.

The first recipient of the award was Val Bangs.  It was presented by Wayne Crabtree in 1986 for her dedication and outstanding work in promoting Old Time Fiddle Music for the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association.

In 2012 Roy Calvert proposed a name change for the award to be the Val Bangs/Wayne Crabtree Perpetual Volunteer Award.  The original trophy was retired and a plaque was commissioned to record the award recipients.  In addition, the recipient is awarded a smaller plaque of their own.
